This season, it’s not so much an article of clothing, it’s the color! That’s right you heard me – this season's must haves are clothing and accessories in bright vivacious colors e.g. yellow, turquoise, purple and green!
So, if you're anything like me, basics all the way! The thought of running out and buying anything in pastel colors is terrifying. I shop with the notion that I have to be able to wear my clothing long after the trend has gone. But guess what, I am actually jumping ship. Sorry “basics team”, this trend is simply irresistible. The colors are exactly what my monotonous wardrobe needs. In a sea of black, blues and browns a splash of color is like a ray of sunshine on a gloomy day.
Still, I do plan on being very cautious and not overdose on items that in the long run will be impractical. This is my game plan: buy tops and accessories that will add pizzazz to my black, blue and brown – that way I still look current. So, do buy a yellow belt, purple suede or patent leather shoes, fun bangles, cute halters, hats, statement earrings and necklaces.
Now have fun looking and living pretty! After all, you are a Hot Chick! - Stacey Bethel |

Hot Chick Chat with Vivica A. Fox!
We all know and love Viv from her sassy roles in films such as Kill Bill,Two Can Play That Game, Soul Food, Set It Off, Independance Day and countless other films as well as TV shows. Yet the private Viv is just as sassy and is still doing her thang as an actress, producer and now host of TVLand's The Cougar (a dating reality show where younger men have to prove that they have what it takes to satisfy a older woman). Despite the constant whispers of her allege crushes, hookups, and of course those other damn questions, this glamorous, sophisticated fashionista is a hot example of being grown and sexy as she continues to live her life...pretty of course! Hey Viv...
Vivica A. Fox: Heyyyyy!
PrettyHotChick: You got a birthday coming up July 30th!
Vivica A. Fox: Yeah 45. They're coming fast now aren't they! (Laughs) But I won't complain. Life is good.
PrettyHotChick: What are your birthday plans?
V.A.F.: Probably have parties in different places, like Canada. It's great that people will call and say, "you got a birthday" and want to celebrate with me.
PrettyHotChick: You're a Hot Chick!
V.A.F.: Yeah, I'm a hot piece! (Laughs)
PrettyHotChick: Speaking of "hot piece," there's been quite a bit made about your compliments of Zac Efron & Flo Rida...
V.A.F : Let me tell you about that! I got asked in an interview who do I think are hot young men. I told them Zac Efron and Flo Rida. They only focused on Zac Efron. It amazes me how a simple comment can be taken so far.
PrettyHotChick: Yeah, but you know how people are...trying to get up in your business...make a little something out of nothing like saying that you like this guy and that you're with this guy...
V.A.F.
: (Laughs). I wish my love life was that amazing. You guys don't think Viv wants to get her groove on!
PrettyHotChick: (Laughs) Oh yeah! So you're...
V.A.F.: Single not dating!
PrettyHotChick: What made you do this dating show...The Cougar?
V.A.F.: Well, I did the show to empower women and to enlighten younger men who want to date older women.
PrettyHotChick: Speakin' of which, some of the guys Stacey (The Cougar) chose were...ahhhhhhh...very interesting...
V.A.F.
: Yeah I know. Not the ones I would've picked. But hey, whatever tickles your pickle!
PrettyHotChick: What is the one thing that people don't know about you?
V.A.F: That I'm a neat freak! Have to have order...everything must be organized.
PrettyHotChick: What is the best relationship lesson you learned?
V.A.F: Take your time to get to know someone. Don't jump into something because he's cute or because you're lonely.
PrettyHotChick: Best beauty secrets...
V.A.F.: Once a month, I get a microdermabrasion. I use Noxema wipes to take off my makeup. And for my hair, a good stylist to come and take care of it! (Laughs)
PrettyHotChick: Right! What are your secrets to being a Hot Chick?
V.A.F.: 1. Take care of your spirit! If you complain about things or what you don't have, you won't be able to look in the mirror. 2. Exercise. I workout 3-5 times a week. I do cardio, light weights, jump rope, treadmill, jumping jacks and I workout with my trainer, Basheerah Ahmad. She works me out! 3. Watch your diet. Watch the sugar and carbs. 4. Wear clothes that fit properly. Make sure it fits your assets well. I'm always having things altered and tailored.
PrettyHotChick: Viv, if you had a chance to do anything over...
V.A.F. : There are no "do overs". I have no regrets!
PrettyHotChick: Best life lesson?
V.A.F.
: Girl...Live! Love! Laugh!
Next up for Vivica A. Fox: HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm and the new thriller, Junkyard Dog.
What's HOT Now: Catch Vivica on TV Land's The Cougar, Wednesday nights at 10pm.

The Pretty Thoughts of a Hot Chick:
Foxy Little Notions for Our Minds, Bodies & Souls!
Latest Book Reviews:
"It is highly recommended reading for the sojourner of life who needs a quick pick-me-up in the darkest moments or just a friendly nudge of a reminder. If you get ‘stuck’ or feel ‘trapped’ and aren't sure which thought pattern will get you unstuck and moving up, on or out, pick up a glass of wine or cool refreshing spring water, tell yourself “It’s not that serious,” and read this book! Somewhere in there is the prettiest thought that a hot chick can have at just the moment she needs it." - S. Renee Greene, Contributing Editor, wwww.mahoganybutterfly.com

5 Tips for the Glam Use of Pearls!
These are not your grandmother's pearls! In the past, pearls were worn as a formal fashion accessory, whether to a black tie event, a wedding, a funeral or other formal gathering. Grandma would use her single-strand cultured pearl necklace just as she would use her China often-times. The formal protocol for using pearls still exists and we will elaborate further as we go along, however, technological advances in the pearl industry has broadened the pearl's appeal and affordability--in short, the industry has opened an array of possibilities that did not exist before. So, you are not bound to treat your pearl necklace as a family heirloom that is to be passed down from one generation to the next. Now is the time to showcase your pearl jewelry. Let your neck, ears, wrists come to life with nature's most unique gem.
1. Imagine the options and then wear what feels most reflective of your inner soul. So, you can wear a higher-end pearls, such as South Sea, Tahitian and Akoya or more affordable freshwater pearls to match the level of elegance, formality or fun of your outfit. The only issue is how you feel inside. Let's get into that further.
2. Matching feelings and fashion. There are rules that have cropped up in fashion over time that have been re-examined, re-written, recycled and repealed. For example, the "Don't wear white after Labor Day" rule has lost the fervent support that it once had in the fashion world and today, we are smashing the idea that pearls are only to be worn with black dresses or whatever other nonsensical adages exist about pearls. Pearls can be worn with jeans and a t-shirt and/or tank top or a sun dress in the most casual of settings or they can be worn with pant suits and blazers in the more formal corporate environment. Shorter length necklaces inspire feelings of simplicity and elegance, but you can amp up the intensity by either layering multiple necklaces or wearing a multi-strand necklace that radiates more drama. Your "glam" factor increases exponentially when you wear casual clothing with a stunning multi-strand necklace--try it ladies, you'll see.
3. Tradition does have its merits at times, but there is no magic formula for wearing pearls. When wearing more formal outfits, longer length necklaces offer a sophisticated feel because of the versatility of the necklace. Longer necklaces also can be playful since they can be wound into multiple strands or varied in length or tied. The length and size of a necklace is ultimately a matter of personal taste, regardless of wealth and supposed social status. The only status we hold with pearls is that they are God's beautiful gift to all of us, so why not use it!
4. But what if you're not a pearl rebel? That's ok, too. I will define some of the basic guidelines so that you can break them. Just remember, it's all about how you feel. There are no words that make up a rule for your feelings. Pearls are alive and the more you feel that, the more free you will be to wear them as you wish and look as beautiful as you feel inside. Smaller pearls (5.5-6.5 mm) are generally for teenage girls and younger women in their mid-20's. Pearls 6.5-8.0 mm traditionally are worn by women in their mid-20’s to mid-30's. They reflect a woman's burgeoning maturity, in essence she has "come of age." Pearls 8.0-9.0 mm in size start to reflect a more "glam" mindset regardless of age, but as the pundits write, the pearls "exhibit an aura of status, class, and success. Traditionally, they are worn by women in their mid-30’s to mid-40’s." The size of the pearls however, do reflect a greater sense of luxury since they are considerably more expensive, typically. Larger pearls (9.0mm and greater) are both rare and expensive. Generally, they reflect an economic status that normally, may be associated with women of more mature years and greater financial freedom. The famous French musical impressionist, Eric Satie, said that he was able to break the rules of music because he knew them. Ladies, I say the same to you. Break the rules and wear pearls all the time. Your soul will love you for it.
Ciao,
Alejandra

Be a financial role model!
Lisa Caputo, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Women & Co., and Linda Descano, CFAR, President and COO of Women & Co., offer the following tips to help women continue to be an inspiration to the next generation:
1. Talk to your children about money: Similar to the birds and the bees, money should be an ongoing topic of conversation with your children. It's never too early or too late to help your children develop a strong foundation of financial knowledge.
2. Get financially fit: Financial fitness, like physical fitness requires exercise. Get a piggy bank (or make one!) and create a scenario in which your children can "work" for money, such as payments for household chores or tasks outside the household routine like wrapping presents for charities at holiday time.
3. Practice what you preach: The financial decisions you make today have a lasting impact - now and for future generations. Be financially responsible, and your children are more likely to follow suit. Define your financial goals and put a plan in place to work toward them.
4. Create a common goal: Get your kids involved in financial planning early by starting a family fund that will be put toward a common goal such as a vacation, gift, or a specific charity that family members would like to support. Let the whole family experience the positive end results of saving and budgeting.
5. Know why money matters: Strike a balance between your family's finances and your family life as a whole. Your finances should support your life, not control it. Help children build a positive relationship with money by demonstrating that money is not a status symbol, but one of the many components to building a stable and fulfilled life. And, perhaps most importantly, if you need financial help ask. Talk with a financial advisor or visit womenandco.com, which provides access to a suite of financial education resources and a vibrant community of financially-minded women.
About Women & Co.:
Women & Co. is a financial resource program from Citi, dedicated to helping women achieve their financial goals. Women & Co. provides members with education on a vast array of financial and investing topics, which members access through womenandco.com, where members can read newsletters, listen to audio conferences, and find out about Master Class seminars in major metropolitan areas. For more information, visit womenandco.com. |
HOT Jewels
Whether it's worn around the neck or wrist, pearls have been making one hell of a sophisticated yet sexy fashion statement! And as every hot chick knows, like our First Lady Michelle Obama, style is how you decide to speak to the world. |
| Pearls of Wisdom |

Tips on caring for your jewels.
1. Your jewelry is alive, so please be gentle.
Being gentle doesn't mean your pieces are fragile, it's just a matter of being careful. Do not be too hasty and throw your pieces down on the counter or impatiently tug at a clasp. At this point try to do some jewelry yoga--take a deep breath and take the extra minute to
place them down gently.
2. Remember that pearls especially do not like to be sprayed with perfumes and oils. Perfume can, over time, strip the pearl's nacre which is the substance that gives a pearl it's shine (sounds painful). Perfumes and oils also reduce the overall appearance of precious stones, so be careful applying oils and lotions with your stones as well. If your hands need lotion, take off your ring (for a second and put it somewhere super safe or keep it in sight) before you apply
lotion or oil.
3. Place your piece in its case, pouch or other storage compartment. When you finish your day, you typically go home. So think of your piece in the same way, it wants to go home and lay down comfortably in its bed, pouch, case, vault, etc.
4. Always keep your pieces in a dry place. Keep them away from the sink or the sweating bottle of water. The silk or cotton thread that is typically used to string your pieces prefer to be dry. Keeping the string dry prolongs the life of the string and subsequently the life of your piece. However, like most people who live, sometimes you do not stay dry, so please see the next tip.
5. Summertime is upon us and as the song says, "the livin' is easy, fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high" and if you happen to ride the wave of life and forget that you are wearing your favorite necklace or bracelet as you frolic about in the pool or in the ocean, remember that chlorine and sea water are natural foes to silk and cotton. So, if that happens, please rinse the piece in cold water very briefly and then place it on a dry towel and gently pat out any extra water and let it dry.
"Love them and they will give you pleasure."
