Chocolate Covered Strawberries!

Every Pretty Hot Chick has one treat she can whip up at a moment's notice! And honey, this recipe from hottie chef Iman Dean, (www.sweetpotatopiediaries.blogspot.com) is simple, sexy and will have your lover thinking you spent hours trying to figure out how to get the chocolate to stay around the strawberries. Oh and don't forget the heels while you feed him...

Ingredients:
3 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
3 ounces milk chocolate chips
3 ounces white chocolate chips
2 Tbsp of butter
1 pound strawberries with stems (about 20), washed and dried

Directions:
Combine 1 tablespoon of butter, semisweet and milk chocolate chips in one heat proof medium bowl & the other tbsp of white chocolate chips in another. Fill 2 medium saucepans with a couple inches of water & bring to a simmer over medium heat. Turn off the heat; set the bowls of chocolate over the water to melt. Stir until smooth. Once the chocolates are melted & smooth, remove from the heat. Line a sheet pan with parchment or waxed paper. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip the fruit into the dark chocolate, lift & twist slightly, letting any excess chocolate fall back into the bowl. Set strawberries on the parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the strawberries. Dip a fork in the white chocolate and drizzle the white chocolate over the dipped strawberries. Set the strawberries in refrigerator until the chocolate sets, about 15 minutes. Bon appétit!

News Report: Haiti Earthquake

As many of you know, Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, experienced a devasting earthquake that crippled the impovished nation. The 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck southern Haiti late Tuesday, January 12, 2010 afternoon, knocked down buildings and inflicted destruction and casualties. About 3 million people -- one-third of Haiti's population -- were affected by the quake, the Red Cross estimated. About 10 million people felt shaking from the earthquake, including 2 million who felt severe trembling, the U.S. Geological Survey estimated. President Obama said the U.S. would have a "swift, coordinated and aggressive" response. "The reports and images that we've seen of collapsed hospitals, crumbled homes and men and women carrying their injured neighbors through the streets are truly heart-wrenching," Obama said. A second earthquake hit Haiti today. Officials fear more than 200,000 people have died.

Musician Wyclef Jean, who is from Haiti and started the Yele Haiti Foundation in 2005 to provide scholarships to disadvantaged youth in Haiti, is asking for everyone to donate what they can to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund. For more info, visit www.yele.org. Vanity Fair puts Tiger in his "Black" place!

Tiger Woods graces Vanity Fair! But why this particular image? The photo, shot before the scandal by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, is a rather interesting look for a man who always seemed to have this choir-boy, vanilla, color-blind image to the public eye. This picture, however, goes against Tiger's carefully crafted persona of a clean cut, racially ambiguous male. Here, he looks every bit the stereotypically menacing, highly sexual, predatory, Black man. Is it a coincidence on the part of Vanity Fair to select this image? Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. And for most media professionals like myself, it is part of our job to present imagery that conveys a meaning or conjure up emotions. This is how the media manipulates your view of a certain person or situation as well as, to a large extent, how magazines, products and services get sold. I emailed the original V.F. (L) cover to a friend of mine. He responded with his version (R) of their cover and said, "They went to far!" So, is it a subliminal message behind V.F.'s cover? Hmmm...like, O.J. ABC News Report: Why are 42% of Black women not married?

“For millions of black women, many blessed with brains and beauty, finding the right man is proven elusive. But why?! Are their standards to high or are the pickings to slim?”

When I first heard of this, I thought, "Good Grief! Here we go again. What are they going to say different than what hasn't already been said." But after watching this clip, I was rather intrigued yet baffled. The women interviewed mentioned honesty, supportive, financial stability and chemistry as their requirements. That's not asking too much. However, based on the statistics, the pickings are slim. According to ABC, there are 1.8 million more Black women than Black men. So if every Black man married a Black woman, 1 out of 12 still wouldn't make it down the aisle. Seems quite bleak, right?! Comedian, radio personality & author Steve Harvey advises single women to date older men. Well, that may be an option for some women. Now for others, it may offer a whole other issue that perhaps certain younger men can...shall I say tackle?! I'm just saying! LOL! So, given the situation, should Black women settle? Would you?

Rihanna's colored tresses are one of the most requested hues! So I asked one of NYC's hottest stylists, Rod Horton, to describe this sexy color, which he predicted as a hot trend to us months ago! "Amber, like the jewel, is a natural color that can deepen blondes with a golden tone without being too brassy," explains Horton. "And at the same time give richness to brunettes with a warm reddish/chestnut tone."

What is the best and safest way to achieve Rihanna's amber hair color? According to Horton, when working with chemically relaxed or straightened hair it's best not to use a high volume peroxide. You can safely lift relaxed hair 2 to 3 shades lighter without  compromising the integrity of the hair. If your hair is a medium brown naturally, you can pre-lighten it using 20 or 30 volume peroxide then tone your hair to a golden amber shade with 10 volume or even safer way with a deposit only demi-permanent color that is enriched with  conditioners. With natural hair you can be a little more aggressive with using a higher volume peroxide and lightener, i.e. 40 volume, to achieve desired shades. Alicia recently got her hair colored a few shades lighter with Clairol, so Tippi
started off by washing her hair with the Pantene Pro-V Color Revival Shampoo & Conditioner to keep her color looking healthy and vibrant for the camera. Since Alicia performed twice on stage on top of walking the red carpet, Tippi came up with a fun updo that transformed effortlessly throughout the night. Why does it seem that men don't listen! Every time my boyfriend and I get into an argument, it appears like he doesn't hear one word I say. For example, I say, "Your son should pick up after himself." He says, "So you saying my son is a slob?" Huh?! I didn't say that! Help! What we need to take a look at is how you are delivering your point. Are you expressing yourself in a manner that is receptive or are you in attack mode? You have to be honest with yourself. No man likes to be “talked at”. If you were listening to one another it would have been a discussion. I’m a firm believer in respecting women and when I’m feeling disrespected it's difficult, if not impossible, to really process what’s being said constructively. It appears that your boyfriend felt disrespected, that’s why he interpreted what you said about his son as being disrespectful. My suggestion in this case is to be mindful of your delivery. To be fair, I’ll also address this from the point of view that you did deliver your message in a calm and receptive manner. Why are females still fighting each other over a man?

WTH! Just heard from a friend of mine that his niece got into a fight with a girl over her boyfriend! Dig this. The niece, (let's call her Sally) and her boyfriend (Don) coming home from his birthday celebration, were confronted in the lobby of Don's apartment by some girl (Beth) at 2am. The girls exchanged words then Don stepped between them and asked Sally to "go upstairs". She reluctantly did as he requested. But, after a certain period of wondering what her man was doing, Sally went back downstairs to see what was going on. When she saw Don and Beth talking and Beth noticed her, the girls immediately started arguing then Sally punched her. They fight. Cops were called and everyone was arrested. Now here's what gets me! One, why would you wait in the lobby for a man to get home at 2am in the morning no less? Do you not have a life? Two, why argue and/or fight with another female over ANY guy? And more importantly, shouldn't they blame the dude? Apparently he wasn't truthful with either of them. Ladies, why don't you know your worth? I'm just saying!

The other day I read that model & actress Noemie Lenoir, attempted to end her life after her ex-boyfriend and 5-year old son's father ended their relationship and any hopes of an reconciliation. She was also scared of getting older and of being alone. So, Lenoir, 30, allegedly attempted the suicide at her ex's house, but fled and was found unconscious in a forest. Damn!

Ever went through a tough breakup? You can't sleep, think or eat? You close your eyes and see his face? You lie awake at night longing for his touch...his sweet embrace? Ever glanced at your phone hoping that he would call saying he was wrong? Isn't it funny how much your heart cannot erase? Then there are those moments where you worry about getting older and that you'll be alone? Fear is a muthaf*cker ain't it? Especially when death is an option.

Baby, I know it hurts. I know you're afraid. I know that for those folks who told you that he was not good enough or not right, you wish that they could've seen you guys together to see the beauty. Was there anything new? No. Was it entertaining? Yes. Can a successful Black woman find a man? Ab-so-freaking-lutely!

Honey, until rather recently, I would stand toe-to-toe and battle with men I was involved with about their thoughts - which is funny, considering I'd be the 1st to say to my friends, "You can't argue anyone's belief." LOL! But after one too many sleepless nights, a little too much wine, a bad headache and looking in the mirror and not liking the stress on the woman's face staring back at me, I said, "To hell with this! My spirit & beauty mean far too much to me than arguing with someone over a point a view." Simply put, people are going to think whatever they want to think. So before you enter into any argument, ask yourself, "What exactly is this battle about & is it worth my mind, time, body & soul?"
